Lova Multimodal Competition
In 2016, Lova launched the biennial Lova Photo Competition. In 2022 we renamed it to Multimodal Competition, as we wanted to stimulate creativity by inviting participants to submit also other visuals like short videos, drawings, or animations.
The competition was organised in the Spring on Lova’s social media accounts such as Facebook and Instagram. Each round, a special committee of volunteers selected a specific theme for the event, in line with Lova’s mission to enhance feminist anthropology and gender studies. In 2018 the competition was skipped as no volunteers were available and in 2024 the competition was put on hold to rethink its aims. So we had three rounds so far.
A jury of experts in the field of multimodal and visual anthropology selected the contributions for the Jury Award and by measuring interactions on social media we also provided an Audience Award in 2016 and 2020; in 2022 a Special Mention was awarded. The award winners received a donation of fifty euros and a two-year Lova membership. Winning contributions were published in the Lova Journal. The winning contributions are also published on this Lova website.
